Deenanath Mangeshkar Hospital adopts digital pathology from OptraSCAN®
with a focus on AI & ML-based Image Analysis solution
Pune, India, 11th December 2018: OptraSCAN®, the leading On-Demand Digital Pathology solution provider has collaborated with Deenanath Mangeshkar Hospital & Research Center, affiliated to Lata Mangeshkar Medical Foundation to implement OptraSCAN’s affordable digital pathology solution, namely, a whole-slide digital scanner along with Artificial Intelligence (AI) & Machine Learning (ML)-based image analysis solution for nuclear and membrane biomarker quantification.
OptraSCAN has developed world’s first On-Demand Digital Pathology Solution, initiated for research and clinical diagnosis, that assists the pathologist community in providing effective acquisition of whole slide images for viewing, storing, reporting and real time sharing of information across hospitals, labs and their networks as against the use of optical microscopes. OptraSCAN offers some promising digital pathology solutions in the field of oncology that can be used for staging and grading cancer cells, as well as for risk assessment, thereby providing a precise and timely diagnosis.
“There is no denying that digital pathology adoption leads to more accurate diagnosis and brings the pathology community closer; and with advancements such as AI & ML-based algorithms, digital pathology has gone beyond”, said Dr. Sujit Joshi, Consulting Onco-Pathologist, Deenanath Mangeshkar Hospital. “We are excited to be using OptraSCAN’s image analysis solution as they promise to provide accurate and rapid assessment of nuclear and membrane biomarker analysis which is a great news for research and timely treatment in the oncology field.”
“As digital pathology is transforming modern healthcare, slowly but steadily many hospitals and labs in India are taking cognizance of its many benefits. OptraSCAN always thrives to create digital pathology solutions that are affordable and easy-to-implement without disturbing pathologists’ workflow”, said Abhi Gholap, Founder & CEO, OptraSCAN®. “The implementation at DMH will help expand the adoption of digital pathology and allow more institutions to collaborate and see the true rewards of AI in pathology.”
OptraSCAN’s whole slide digital scanners are cloud-enabled and well equipped with Brightfield, Fluorescence and Confocal imaging modalities. These small footprint, low and high throughput scanners are lightweight that can easily fit into small workspaces and provide the ultimate flexibility for storing, archiving and managing digital images and metadata. OptraSCAN’s AI & ML- based image analysis solutions have been developed on an automated algorithm system that gives an accurate, rapid and reproducible analysis of nuclear and membrane biomarkers as well as of immuno-oncology and prostate cancer.
“I am glad that with OptraSCAN, we are able to achieve our goal of adopting an end-to-end integrated digital pathology solution in our work system to derive the many distinct benefits it offers. This digital transformation will drive us to improve operational efficiency and to provide better outcomes”, said Dr. Mahesh Mandolkar, HOD – Pathology, Deenanath Mangeshkar Hospital.
OptraSCAN® are pioneers in the On-Demand Digital Pathology® System, focused on delivering fully integrated and affordable products, software and solutions via On-Demand or outright purchase model. An ISO 13485 certified company and CE marked whole slide scanners for IVD use, OptraSCAN is working to eliminate the barriers to “Go Digital” no matter the size of the pathology lab, the lab's throughput or global location.
With Nikon, OptraSCAN has entered into a strategic partnership to accelerate the adoption of affordable digital pathology in North America. The National Institute of Neurological Disorders and Stroke (NINDS) of the National Institutes of Health (NIH), USA will be implementing OptraSCAN’s Multi-modality digital slide scanner to be used for brain injury studies. Basis mass validation conducted in India, particularly in metropolitan, urban, and semi-urban areas; OptraSCAN received an endorsement from the Government of India for using its digital pathology system as an affordable medical device across India.
